Bangladeshi man held by Indian BSF along Kurigram border

A suspected cattle smuggler from Bangladesh has been detained by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Kurigram's Bhurungamari upazila.

The detainee was identified as Jahurul Islam (46) of Dakshin Banshjani village in Pathardubi union under the upazila, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent quoting Lt Col Mohammad Jamal Hossain, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-22 in Kurigram.

The incident took place early today when a group of suspected cattle smugglers were trying to trespass into Indian territory near sub-pillar no-9S along the Dakshin Banshjani border area.

BSF personnel of Dighaltari camp on patrol duty located and pursued them, and detained Jahurul while the others managed to flee, the BGB official said.

No one was held from inside the Bangladesh territory, the official added.
