Bangladeshi beaten to death on Chuadanga border

A Bangladeshi cattle trader, who was allegedly beaten up inside the Indian territory early today, succumbed at a Chuadanga hospital, his fellows claimed.

Abdul Gani, 33, son of Taher Mondol of Chakulia in Damurhuda upazila of the district, died at Chuadanga General Hospital around 8:30am, reports our correspondent from Kushtia.

Gani was beaten up mercilessly and tendon of his left leg was cut, said doctor of the hospital Sourav Hossain adding that he died due to excessive bleeding.

Seeking anonymity, one of his fellows told the correspondent that Gani was beaten up by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and some Indian cattle suppliers.

Contacted, Lt Colonel Khaliquzzaman, director of Border Guard Bangladesh-6 of Chuadanga, said they are yet to know about the attackers. BGB has already sent a letter to BSF to know the facts, he said.

Gani’s wife Ismat Ara Khatun said her husband went to on Hudapara border point with other cattle traders around 3:30am today to bring some cattle from India.

“Around 5:00am, I was informed that he was rescued from the Hudapara border of the upazila and taken to Chuadanga General Hospital, where he died around 8.30:am”, she said.

One of the cattle traders, who companied Gani, alleged that Gani had a business feud with some Indian cattle suppliers. Today, when they cross the border, some Indian national picked him up and took away, he said.

“Later, we came to know that those cattle suppliers and BSF mercilessly beat him up at 54 Maloapara BSF camp under Nadia district of West Bengal,” he said.

“We rescued him from in front of the pillar no-87 after Gani was thrown into the Bangladesh territory,” the cattle trader said.
