Police rescue a 22-day-old infant from a family on August 21, 2019 when they allegedly attempted to sell the baby at Hemayetpur Kazipara village in Pabna Sadar upazila.

Police rescued a 22-day-old infant from a family today when they allegedly attempted to sell the baby at Hemayetpur Kazipara village in Pabna Sadar upazila.

Police detained four people in connection with the incident, Sub-inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in-charge of Hemayetpur police camp, told our Pabna correspondent.

The arrestees are: Md Helal Uddin, alleged seller of the baby, and his wife Anni Khatun, his father-in-law Md Abdullah, and mother-in-law Ruji Begum of Hemayetpur Kazipara village.

They are kept in the police custody for interrogation, our Pabna correspondent reports.

Helal, a day labourer of the village, took the baby from a poor couple in the capital’s Uttara last week promising to raise the baby in his family.

But he attempted to sell the baby to another couple for Tk 20 thousand, according to police and social welfare department. 

A team of Pabna police rushed to the capital in search of the real parents of the baby, SI Habibur said.
