ACC sues 8 BWDB engineers for misappropriating Tk 34.42 crore

The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against eight engineers of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) and three others for misappropriating about Tk 34.42 crore from a project.

ACC's Deputy Assistant Director Sahidur Rahman filed the case with its integrated district office in Habiganj this morning, Pranab Bhattacharya, public relations officer of ACC, confirmed it to The Daily Star.

The accused are: Sigma Engineers Limited Managing Director Syed Md Kamal, Chairman Engineer Syed Arshed Reza and General Manager Engineer Abdus Salam; BWDB's Superintendent Engineer SM Shahidul Islam, Executive Engineer Anisur Rahman, Superintendent Engineer Abu Taleb, Superintendent Engineer M Golam Sarwar, Executive Engineer Mohammad Abbas Ali, Superintendent Engineer Abdul Basit, Executive Engineer Ruhul Amin and Chief Engineer (Mechanical Equipment) Chowdhury Nazmul Alam.

According to the case statement, under the Manu River Irrigation Project, a pump was procured spending Tk 34.42 crore more than its actual price.

The accused in collaboration with each other misappropriated the money, reads the FIR.
