ACC arrests land official with bribe money from Cox's Bazar

The Anti-Corruption Commission last night arrested a sub-registrar of the Chakaria Sub-registry Office with bribe money from Cox's Bazar.

Sub-registrar Nahiduzzaman and an employee of the office Durjoy Kanti Pal were arrested with Tk 642,100, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent quoting an ACC official.

"A complaint was lodged with the ACC alleging that no land was allowed to be registered at the Chakaria Sub-registry Office without a bribe. The ACC, based on the allegation conducted a raid which went on for five hours," said Md Riaz Uddin, assistant director of ACC Chittagong District Integrated Office-2.

"During the raid, the cash was recovered from some drawers of the office and the sub-registrar and the staff were unable to give a valid reason for the money, so it appeared to the ACC that the money was from bribe transaction," he said.

"One office assistant named Shyamal Barua is absconding at the moment.

"All three of them will be charged under the Bribery and Money Laundering Act today and after that, they will be produced before the Cox's Bazar Senior Special Judge's Court," the ACC official added.
