7 workers suffer burn injuries while melting iron at Ctg steel mill

Seven people suffered burn injuries when they were melting iron at a steel mill in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila today.

The workers were admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Burn Unit around 2:00pm, said Alauddin Talukdar, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost.

The injured workers said they suffered injuries when they were melting iron at the mill in Chotto Kumira of the upazila, Alauddin Talukder added.

The injured workers are Keu Chohan (45), Md Shahed (28), Md Nuruzzaman (40), Amir Hossain (27), Shahin Alam (27), Rabindra, and Tipu Sultan, the police official said.

"Tipu was released after primary treatment. The rest have sustained seven to eleven percent burn and inhalation injuries," said Dr Rafiq Uddin Ahmed, Assistant Professor of CMCH Burn Unit.

Dr Rafiq Uddin Ahmed also confirmed that the workers are from a steel mill in Chattogram. The injured have been kept under observation at the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of CMCH, said medical sources.

Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters sources said they had no information about any fire incident in any factory.
