7 sued over speedboat capsize in Patuakhali’s Agunmukha river

Another case has been filed in connection with the speedboat capsize in Agunmukha river in Patuakhali's Ragabali upazila.

Krishi Bank's Baherchar branch manager Delwar Hossain, who survived the accident, filed the case with Ragabali Police Station on Sunday night.

Five passengers, including one of Delwar's colleagues died when the speedboat with 18 passengers capsized at the estuary of Agunmukha river on October 22.

The case was filed on charges of carrying passengers beyond the capacity of the speedboat in bad weather and negligence of authorities concerned, said Ali Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Rangabali Police Station.

Speedboat driver Abul Hossain Matubbar and Rangabali Koralia speedboat ghat manager Bashir Uddin were among the seven accused.

Earlier, Patuakhali River Port Traffic Inspector Jahirul Islam filed a case against two --speedboat driver and its owner -- with the Marine Court on Saturday evening for carrying additional passengers, not operating as per the route permit, not having certified drivers and not carrying life jackets.

Locals staged a sit-in at the local Baher Chan Bazaar demanding a ferry services on the Agunmukha River.
