57 party men sued

Say Patuakhali BNP leaders

Four cases were filed with different police stations against 57 BNP men in the district.

The cases were filed with Patuakhali, Galachipa, Rangabali and Dashmina police stations on November 2 and 3, to harass BNP men, said Golam Rahman, office secretary of the district unit BNP.

Sub-inspectors Eusuf Ali, Md Siddik and Md Nazrul Islam filed the cases, he said, adding that they have already sent the list of the cases to central BNP. 

Besides, over 100 unnamed people have been accused in the cases, said Golam Rahman.

Police have already arrested Atiqul Islam Sujon, publication secretary of district unit Jubo Dal, and sent him to jail through a court, he said.

Advocate Mojibur Rahman alias Toton, organising secretary of district unit BNP, said “Police filed the cases only to harass our party men.”

“No unwanted incident took place in the area but police filed cases with different police stations against our party men as per instructions from ruling Awami League men,” he said.

Milon Mitra, officer-in-charge of Rangabali Police Station, said a case was filed against BNP men as they exploded cocktail in the area to spread panic among local people.

Contacted, Superintendent of Police Md Moinul Hasan said they are not filing case to harass BNP men.

Police are doing duty to maintain law and order, said the SP.
