Around 50 warehouses were gutted in a fire that broke out at a slum in Narayanganj Sadar upazila early today.

The warehouses at Fatulla area, which were used to store jhut (fabric scraps from garment factories), caught fire around 3:30am, our local correspondent reports quoting Abdullah Al Arefin, deputy assistant director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Seven units of firefighters brought the fire under control around 5:00am, the official added.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit, said Aslam Hosen, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fatulla Model Police Station, quoting fire service sources.
