5 sued over rape of college student in Barishal

A case was filed today in connection with the rape of a college student in Barishal's Agailjhara upazila on October 24.

According to the case statement, the accused-- Nayan Mondol--took the 19-year-old girl to a deserted place in Bagda and raped her.

Sensing the matter, four people went to the spot and took both the rapist and the girl to a nearby school where the four tried to rape her, the case statement added. The girl's screams alerted the locals who then rushed to the spot and rescued the girl.

Today, the victim filed a case with Agailjhara Police Station against Nayan for rape, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Agailjhara Police Station. Four others were also made accused in the case for attempted rape, he added.

Investigating officer SI Taibur Rahman said he visited the spot this afternoon and efforts are on to arrest the accused.
