7 killed, 22 injured in Gopalganj, Mymensingh road accidents

Seven people were killed and 22 others injured in two separate road accidents in Gopalganj and Mymensingh districts today.

In Gopalganj, five people were killed and seven others injured in the accident involving a bus and a three-wheeler on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway under Kashiani upazila, reported our Faridpur correspondent, quoting police.  

The deceased were identified as Sumon Munshi, 20, Bodiyar Mollah, 30, Mizan Fakir, 50, Layak Fakir, 50, and Sirazul Islam Mollah, 30. All of them are residents of Tita village under Paruliya union of the upazila.

The incident took place at Pona Bus Stand area in the upazila around 7:30am when a Dhaka-bound Falguni Paribahan bus hit a three-wheeler (locally known as Nosimon), leaving one passenger of the three-wheeler dead on the spot and 11 others injured, said Ataur Rahman, officer in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station.

The injured were rushed to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex where two others succumbed to their injuries, the OC said, adding that another two also passed away while being taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj.

The seven injured are undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, OC Ataur also said.

Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee from the scene after the accident, he added.

In Mymensingh, two persons were killed and 15 others hurt, including five critically injured, in a road accident involving a bus, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bicycle on Mymensingh-Haluaghat road in Tarakanda upazila, this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Alal Uddin, 70, of Rautonbari village and Rashidul Islam, 22, of Gopinathpur village in the upazila.

The incident took place at Madhupur Bottola area in the upazila around 5:00pm when a Dhobaura-bound bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction and then hit a bicycle, killing the rider Alal Uddin dead on the spot and 16 others injured, Mohammad Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station said quoting locals.

The bus overturned in the accident while the CNG-run auto-rickshaw skidded off the road and fell into a road side pond, said the OC.

Of the injured, 12 were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where the doctors declared Rashidul dead, the OC said. The four other injured persons were admitted to local clinics for treatment.

When informed of the accident, police recovered the bodies and sent them to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Police seized the vehicles and a case was lodged with Tarakanda Police Station in this connection, the OC added.
