5 killed, 15 injured as bus hits truck in Sirajganj

At least five people were killed and 15 others were injured as a bus collided with a truck after its tyre got punctured at Konabari near the Bangabandhu bridge west zone of Sirajganj this morning, police said.

Three of the deceased were identified as Md Fazlur Rahman (70), a freedom fighter of Shahjahanpur upazila, and Bimal Kumar Das (45) of Sherpur upazila of Bogura; and Abdul Hannan (55) of Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj.

Md Nurul Islam, officer in charge of Bangabandhu Bridge West Zone Police Station, said a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Jugantor Paribahan from Bogura collided with a Sirajganj-bound oil-laden truck around 8:00am.

"Both the vehicles were speeding. After the front wheel of the passenger bus got punctured, the driver lost control on the wheels and the bus hit the truck," the OC said.

Driver of the truck and four passengers of the bus died on the spot while at least 15 people were injured in the accident.

On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were admitted to Sirajganj General Hospital.
