5 injured in gas cylinder blast in Panchagarh

At least five people, including three teenagers, were injured as a gas cylinder used for inflating balloons, exploded at Tetulia Bazar area in Panchagarh this afternoon.

The injured are now undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with severe burn injuries, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting Abu Shayem Mia, officer-in-charge of Tetulia Police Station.

Of the injured, the balloon vendor Yunus Ali's leg was dismembered while Sabbir Hossain (18) and Hafijul Islam (35) received severe eye injuries, the OC said, adding that the rest also received burn injuries.

A cylinder went off with a big bang when a vendor was inflating balloons at Tetulia Bazar area this afternoon, leaving the five injured, our correspondent reported quoting the OC.

Soon after the blast, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and rescued them and sent them to Tetulia upazila health complex, added the OC.

Later they were shifted to RMCH as their condition deteriorated, he further said.
