4 to walk gallows for murder after abduction

Five other accused acquitted in the case

A court here yesterday sentenced four people to death for killing a battery-run easy-bike driver in 2014.

The convicts are Abdul Malek, 35, Jarip Uddin, 36, Al Amin, 30, and Milon, 32, of Hatchandra area in Jamalpur municipality.

According to the prosecution, the convicts abducted battery-run easy-bike driver Babar Ali of the area over a land dispute on July 14 in 2014.

Two days after the abduction, Babar was found murdered  and police later recovered the body from the Jhenai river in the municipality.

Afterwards, the victim's father filed a murder case with Sadar Police Station, accusing nine people.

After examining witnesses and pieces of evidence, District and Sessions Judge Sayedur Rahman Khan found the four guilty and pronounced the verdict, said Nirmal Kanti Bhadra, public prosecutor of the court.

All the four convicts were present during pronouncement of the verdict around 2:00pm.

The judge also acquitted five other accused in the case as the charge brought against them could not be proved.
