4 sent to jail in Barguna for ‘filming woman, daughter’ and circulating it on YouTube

Police arrested four people, including two journalists, in a case under Digital Security Act filed against seven people in Barguna for allegedly filming a mother and her daughter illegally and circulating it on YouTube.

The arrested are identified as: Mir Jamal (28), Barguna correspondent of banglanews24.com; Sumon Sikder (28), Barguna correspondent of the TV channel News24, Bangla Tribune and the daily Desh Rupantar; Tinku (35), and Sagir Hossain (30), reports our correspondent quoting Abir Hossain Mohammad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Barguna Police Station.

Police arrested them from different areas of Barguna town last night following a case filed by the mother against seven persons under digital security act for illegally entering their house in the middle of the night, filming her and her daughter, and circulating it on YouTube.

The other accused in the case are Asad Sabuj (32), Rabbi (27), and Rubel (26), the OC said.

Meanwhile, the arrestees were produced before Barguna Senior Judicial Magistrate Court today, and the court sent them to jail, rejecting their bail petition.

There are widespread allegations against the two accused journalists, according to locals.

Hosne Ara Hasi, chief executive of Jago Nari, an organisation working for coastal development and women, said the accused unjustly entered the woman's house, harassed her, recorded videos and posted those on YouTube -- which is a crime.

OC Abir Hossain said police are trying to arrest the rest of the accused and said legal action was being taken against them.

ACCUSED JOURNOS SUSPENDED

The authorities of banglanews24.com and Bangla Tribune suspended the two journalists for harassing and abusing people. The two media outlets also published reports on their portals today in this regard.

The outlets in separate statements also said they will not take responsibilities of personal offence.
