4 'drug traders' killed in separate ‘gunfights’
Four suspected drug traders were killed in separate “gunfights” with law enforcers in Cox's Bazar, Sylhet and Munshiganj early today.
Of them, two people were killed in Cox’s Bazar while one in Sylhet and another in Munshiganj.
In Cox’s Bazar, two suspected drug traders were killed in “gunfight”' with police in Kathbania Marine Drive area of Teknaf upazila early today.
The deceased were identified as Najir Dacoit, 35, son of Abdur Rahim of Kachunia and Adbul Amin, 35, son of Amir Hamza of Jadimora Nayapara area of the upazila.
Tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30 am, Pradeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, told UNB.
Sensing danger, the criminals opened fire on police, prompting them to fire back in self-defence that triggered the "gunfight", the news agency reports.
Four policemen were injured during the "gunfight".
In Sylhet, an alleged yaba trader was killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion at Moglabazar area at Dakshin Surma upazila in Sylhet early today.
The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam alias Shahid Miah, 40, son of Dulal Miah of Telibazar Ahammedpur village of the upazila, reports our Sylhet correspondent.
Additional SP Main Uddin Chowdhury, assistant director of Rab-9, said Shahid was involved in yaba trading in greater Sylhet area and was an enlisted top yaba trader according to the list of the home ministry.
The Rab official also said Shahid got bail from court after being arrested with yaba tablets on July 18 last year. His wife Sheuly Akther and three others were also arrested along with him.
A group of people opened fire when a special team of the elite force tried to stop them in Moglabazar area around 3:30am, triggering the “gunfight”, he said.
Later, Rab members found Shahid lying on the ground. Then, he was taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead, the ASP said.
Rab claimed to have recovered 1525 yaba tablets, one 7.65mm pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammo and 3 empty cartridges there.
In Munshiganj, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with Rab at Deulbari in Tongibari upazila.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Hossain Sheikh, 49, son of Nazim Uddin Sheikh of Kunderbazar village of the upazila. He was wanted in 18 cases including of drug, UNB adds.
Tipped off, a team of Rab-11 conducted a drive in the area around 1:00 am, said its deputy commanding officer Major Ashik Billal.
Sensing the presence of the Rab members, the criminals opened fire on Rab members, forcing them to fire back in self-defense.
Later, the elite force members recovered the bullet-hit body of Abul Hossain from the spot.
