6 die showing Covid-19 like symptoms in 3 districts

Six people in total showing coronavirus-like symptoms died Cumilla, Jhenidah and Patuakhali in the last 24 hours.

Of them, three died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Cumilla Medical College Hospital and the other died at Jhenidah Sadar Hospital, our local correspondents report.

The deceased are -- Kanu Lal (73) of Jhakunipara, Sawpan Bakshi (65) of Purba Bagichagaon, and Hasina Begum (57) of Noapara Halimanagar in Cumilla Sadar.

Kanu, Sawpan and Hasina were admitted with shortness of breath at Cumilla Medical College Hospital, said Dr Istiaque, assistant surgeon of the hospital.

With the cases, a total of 185 patients died at the coronavirus unit of the hospital since April. Of them, 154 patients died with coronavirus-like symptoms and 31 died after testing positive for Covid-19, our Cumilla correspondent reports.

Meanwhile, Rakib Hossain (34) of Jhenidah's Shailkupa died earlier today, a day after after being admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital. He was suffering from fever and cough, said Apurba Kumar Saha, residential medical officer of the hospital.

He was given oxygen due to shortness of breath in the early hours today, the physician said. After his death, his sample was collected and sent for Covid-19 test, he added.

In Patuakhali, two persons -- Ishaq Mia (90) and Altafur Rahman (60) -- have died with Covid-19 like symptoms, our local correspondent reports.

Ishaq, a resident of Patuakhali town, died at the coronavirus unit of Patuakhali General Hospital around 11:30pm last night, said Abdul Matin, superintendent of the hospital.

Altafur, an office assistant at Char Augusti Multipurpole Cadet Hafezia Qawmi Madrasa and Orphanage, died while undergoing treatment at Barishal's Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital around 1:00am today.

Galachipa Upazila Health and family planning Officer Dr Monirul Islam confirmed the death.

Samples of the two were collected for coronavirus test.
