32 cannabis plants seized from vegetable field

Police seized at least 32 cannabis plants during a raid at a vegetable field in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila on Tuesday.

No arrest, however, was made in this connection as owner of the vegetable field, Rabiul Islam, fled the scene during the raid, said Subrata Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station.

He said based on information, they conducted the raid around noon at the vegetable field in Nandanpur village in the upazila and found the plants. The plants were later uprooted and brought to the police station.

Ataur Rahman, chairman of Nawabganj Upazila Parishad, and Abdur Razzak, vice chairman of the upazila parishad, accompanied the police team during the raid.

A case was filed with the police station accusing Rabiul Islam, added the OC.

Earlier, on May 14, police in a raid at a mango orchard in Mirpur village of Dinajpur’s Birampur upazila seized 88 cannabis plants. The orchard belonged to Anwar Hossain, vice president of Jubo League unit in the upazila.
