3 sisters drown in Padma at Rajshahi

Two sisters and their cousin drowned in Padma river at Rajshahi's Bagha upazila today while bathing in the Padma River.

The deceased were Jeem, 18, a college student, her sister Esha, 10, and their cousin Shipra, 12, our local correspondent reports.

They went missing hours after they went to bath in the river at around 12noon, Mohsin Ali, officer-in-charge of Bagha police station said.

The locals rescued the trio and rushed them to Bagha Upazila Health Complex where they were declared dead.

Nazrul Islam, acting chairman of Monigram union parishad, quoted locals to say, the youngest girl was trapped in a whirlpool and the others drowned trying to save her.
