Three people were killed and three injured as a truck hits a CNG-run three-wheeler on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria today.

The deceased were identified as Shanta Roy Chowdhury, 30, wife of Mithu Roy Chowdhury of Adair village and Abu Taher, 60, and Billal Uddin, 40, of Haluapara village in Madhabpur, our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports quoting Md Hossain Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sarail Bishwaroad Highway Police Station.

The Dhaka-bound truck rammed the oncoming auto-rickshaw in Satbargo area of the upazila around 1:30pm, killing auto-rickshaw passenger Billal on the spot, the OC said.

Locals rescued five others including the driver of the auto-rickshaw and rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where doctors declared Shanta and Abu Taher dead, he said.

The remaining three people-- Faisal Mia, 25, Farzana Akter, 20, and Jumman Mia, 28-- are in a critical condition and have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the police official said.

Police seized the truck but the driver and helper managed to flee the scene, he added.
