3 killed in road crashes in B’baria, N’ganj

Three people have been killed and three others injured in three separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria and Naryanganj districts.

Two of the accidents took place in Brahmanbaria and the other occurred in Narayanganj.

In Brahmanbaria, an official of Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) and another elderly man died in two separate road accidents in Sadar upazila last night, our local correspondent reports.

Nazrul Islam, 32, a plant operator of BGFCL and a resident of Kumarpara area of Akhaura Railway Colony, died on the spot being run over by a truck after he fell from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw as it veered off the road and hit a parked pick-up van, Md Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, said quoting locals.

The incident took place at Radhika Bazar area on Cumilla-Sylhet highway in the district at around 9:20pm, the OC said.

In the other incident, Johurul Haque, 90, from Gokarnaghat area of Brahmanbaria municipality, was hit by a motorcycle on Cumilla-Sylhet highway.

The incident took place at Fulbaria Bus Stand area when he was waiting for a CNG-run auto-rickshaw around 9:00pm, OC Selim Uddin said.

The victim was taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the police official also said.

The bike rider managed to flee from the scene after the accident, he added.

In Narayanganj, a fish trader was killed in a head-on collision between two pick-up vans this morning.

The deceased was identified as Chandi Sen, 45, reports our Narayanganj correspondent quoting police.

Chandi was going to Jatrabari from Narsingdi with his fish on a pick-up van when it collided with another Gauchia bound van coming from opposite direction on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Rupganj upazila of the district, said Abdul Kaium, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police Station.

Three others, including the driver and the helper of one of the vans, were injured in the accident, he said.

The injured were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment while the body was sent to Naryanganj General Hospital for autopsy, the OC added.
