3 college students stabbed in Bogura

Three students of Govt Azizul Haque College in Bogura were stabbed reportedly by their rival group in the district town this noon.

The injured were identified as Istiak Ahmed Mikat, 18, Niaz Hasan, 19, and Avi, 18, all 11th-graders of the college, our local correspondent reports.

The incident took place during the annual sports competition of BIAM School and College in Nishindhara area of the town around 12noon.

Rahat Mahmud, 18, who was also injured in the incident, told the correspondent that they were dancing in front of the dormitory building on the BIAM campus when a group of youths attacked them. “A group of youths took Niaz aside and started to beat him up mercilessly as we tried to save him, they stabbed three of us.”

Amanullah, friend of the victim, said this was a sequel to the previous enmity between the groups of the students and they also locked in clashes earlier.

Mostafa Kamal, a teacher of the BIAM, said two groups of their former students had been engaged in a long-standing feud and speculated that today’s clash was a mere follow-up.

The injured were admitted to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital where the condition of Niaz was stated to be critical.

SM Badiuzzaman, officer-in-charge of the Bogura Sadar Police Station, said they collected CCTV-footage of the incident and the responsible persons will be identified through screening the footage. No case was filed as of filing the report at 8:00pm.
