21 police members closed over killing of retired army officer in Cox’s Bazar

Twenty-one police members, including an in-charge of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre, have been closed following the death of a retired army major from police gunshots at a check-post in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila on Friday.

Liakat Ali, in-charge of Baharchhara Police Investigation Centre, and 20 other police members were closed to Cox's Bazar Police Line today in this connection, Deputy Inspector General of Chattogram Range of Police Khandaker Golam Faruque told our Cox's Bazar correspondent.

Retired Major Sinha Md Rashed was killed in police firing at Baharchhara police check-post on Friday night.

Zakir Hossain, additional deputy inspector general (operation and crime) of Chattogram Range of Police, is now in Cox's Bazar to get firsthand report in this regard.

The ADIG and ABM Masud Hossain, superintendent of police in Cox's Bazar, have already visited the spot to investigate the incident.

To conduct a fair investigation into the incident, the home ministry yesterday formed a probe body headed by Additional District Magistrate of Cox's Bazar District Administration Md Shahjahan Ali, according to a ministry circular.

Anadditional police super nominated by superintendent of police in Cox's Bazar, and a representative nominated by the GOC of the 10 Infantry Division of Army and Cox's Bazar Area Commander have been made members of the committee.
