21 Jubo Dal men detained after clash with police

Police yesterday detained 21 activists of Jubo Dal in Dashmina upazila town where over 50 of the activists and seven members of police were injured in a clash with the law enforcers over holding a political meeting.

Dashmina Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jalal Uddin said the Jubo Dal arranged the meeting without permission and at least seven policemen were injured when the activists attacked the police.

"We detained 21 men from the spot and legal steps will be taken against them after due investigation," he added.

Mainul Hassan, superintendent of police in Patuakhali, said the Jubo Dal activists attacked the police when the latter went there and requested to stop the proceedings for which necessary permission was not taken.

They would bring the perpetrators to book and were preparing to file a case in this connection, he also said.

The injured members of police are Sub-Inspector Abdur Rahim, Harun-Or-Rashid, Mohammad Mamun, Nuruzzamal and constables Shahjahan Ali, Jahangir and Rahat.

However, a leader of Jubo Dal's Dashmina upazila unit claimed that after postponing their meeting, where no loud speaker was being used, they left the venue peacefully at the request of law enforcers.

But after they regrouped in Nalkhola area, police charged baton on them, injuring over 50 of their activists and leaders, he also said.
