20 sued over Krishak League leader killing

Twenty people were sued yesterday on charge of killing a local leader of Krishak League, a front organisation of Awami League, in Netrakona town on Thursday evening.

AKM Masud Faruq, 53, also convener of Netrakona municipality Krishak League and a resident of Bahir Chapra area in the town, was killed by his neighbours centring a land dispute, police said.

Deceased's younger brother Abul Khayer Russel filed a murder case with Netrakona Model Police Station accusing 20 people, including 15 named ones, yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, police on Friday detained Sabuj Talukder, 70, and his wife Selina Akter, 60, parents of key accused Nayan, 25, and one of their relatives Swapna Akter, 40, for their alleged involvement in the murder.

Police were conducting drives to arrest the rest of the accused, Officer in Charge of Netrakona Model Police Station Borhan Uddin Khan said.

According to the case statement, criminals allegedly led by Nayan hacked Faruq with sharp weapons in Rajur Bazar area, as a sequel to a longstanding rivalry between Faruq and his neighbour Sabuj over a piece of land, leaving him dead on the spot around 6:30pm.

Aggrieved locals torched two houses belonging to the alleged killers, police said.
