2 killed, 10 hurt as villagers clash in Sirajganj

At least two people, including a teenager, were killed and 10 others injured as two rival groups clashed in Gutibari village under Sirajganj's Shahzadpur upazila yesterday evening.

The deceased were identified as Md Ripon Hossain, 28, son of Abdul Mannan, and Ashraful Mollah, 16, son of Ansar Mollah of the village, reports our Pabna correspondent quoting police.

The clash ensued between the followers of Bahram Ali and Nazim Uddin of the village over a longstanding feud yesterday, said Md Ataur Rahman, officer in charge of Shahzadpur Police Station.

"Boys of both groups were playing on a field in the village when the clash took place, and elders from the two groups also joined in," the OC said.

Followers of the two groups attacked each other with lethal weapons leaving two people dead and 10 others injured, he said.

Of the injured, six were admitted to the 250-bed Bongomata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further untoward incidents, the OC added.

No case has yet been filed in this connection.
