2 including prime accused held over Rangpur schoolboy murder

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) members yesterday arrested two accused, including prime accused, in a case filed over schoolboy Abdur Rashid murder in Rangpur last month.

The arrested were identified as Mozaffar Hossain, 22, the prime accused in the case and son of Kamal Hossain of Keranipara area of Rangpur city, and Nishad Ahmed Joy, 21, the accused no 3 of the case and son of Jewel Ahmed of the same area.

A team of Rab-13 arrested Mozaffar from Rangpur-Badarganj Road near Rangpur central bus terminal early yesterday, said Reza Ahmed Ferdous, commanding officer of the Rab-13, at a press conference in his office.

A foreign made pistol and two rounds of bullet were recovered from his procession, said the Rab official.

Joy was arrested by another team of Rab from Sahebganj-Mashari area of Rangpur city, he said.

Earlier, the elite force members arrested a man, Al Amin Sardar Babu, 25, for his alleged involvement in the murder, the commanding officer added.

Due to previous enmity, some criminals chopped schoolboy Abdur Rashid with sharp weapons in Textile Intersection of Rangpur city on the night of August 29 and dumped the injured boy under a running bus, leaving him dead on the spot. 

Following the day, victim’s father filed a case against three named people and three unknown persons with Rangpur Police Station in this connection.
