2 farm workers killed as lorry falls into pond in Rajshahi

Two farm workers died and another was injured when a lorry plunged into a pond beside the Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway in Mohonganj upazila of Rajshahi this morning.

The deceased -- Mohon, 28, and Rashedul, 23, -- were going to their home district Kushtia with heaps of paddy from Naogaon when the accident took place, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting Abul Hosen, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohonganj Police Station.

“The vehicle fell into the pond around 5:30am when its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the two workers dead on spot,” said the OC.

Another labourer, Shafikul, 22, also from Kushtia, was admitted at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with a broken leg, the police official also said.

Police have seized the vehicle while its driver and helper remain absconding.
