19 public, science and tech universities to hold admission tests under ‘cluster system’

The admission tests for 2020-2021 academic session in 19 public and science and technology universities will be held under the "cluster system".

As per the cluster system, the entry tests will be held for students under three groups -- arts, commerce and science, according to a statement of University Grants Commission.

To get enrolled in the universities, the students will have to sit for a single admission test and the questions will be prepared based on the curriculum of Higher Secondary School Certificate, the statement said.

Earlier on February 26, the UGC in principle took the decision of holding the entry tests under "three cluster systems" at the public universities.

Today, the decision was approved finally at a meeting between UGC and the vice chancellors of the 19 public and science and technology universities. The meeting was presided over by UGC Chairman Prof Kazi Shahidullah.

Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Vice Chancellor of Jagannath University, said that the central committee comprised of the VCs of the universities will decide about the admission test methods under the cluster system.

The 19 universities are: Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Islamic University, Khulna University, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University, Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Noakhali Science and Technology University, Jagannath University, Comilla University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Jessore University of Science and  Technology, Pabna University of Science and Technology, Begum Rokeya University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, University of Barishal, Rangamati Science and Technology University, Rabindra University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, Sheikh Hasina University and Bangamata Sheikh Fojilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University.
