110 maunds of jatka seized, 3 traders fined

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), fisheries department and Madaripur district administration in separate drives jointly seized 110 maunds of jatka (hilsa fry less than nine inches long) and fined three fish traders in Kalkini and Sadar upazilas of Madaripur yesterday.

The convicts are Md Arif Hossain, 25, Nasir Sarder, 38, and Md Jamal Majhi, 22, of Barishal's Hizla upazila, said Roish Uddin, company commander of Rab-8.

Two mobile courts fined Arif and Nasir Tk 2,500 each and Jamal Tk 5,000, he said.

The seized fish were later distributed among poor people and orphanages, said Roish Uddin.
