11-yr-old raped by elderly man

An 11-year-old schoolgirl was raped allegedly by an elderly man in Pirojpur Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a young man was arrested on charge of killing a girl after rape in Mymensingh yesterday.

Police arrested Md Sukkur Ali Fakir, 60, of Rajar Isa Jujkhola village in Pirojpur Sadar, on charge of raping the girl on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent.

Quoting family members, SM Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said neighbour Sukkur Ali lured the fourth grader with chocolates and took her to a nearby garden. He then raped her.

Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. However, the accused managed to flee the scene.

Following a case filed by the girl's mother, police arrested Sukkur yesterday, said the OC.

The girl was sent to a hospital for medical test, he said.

In Mymensingh, detectives yesterday arrested a youth on charge of killing a 12-year-old schoolgirl after rape in Dhobaura upazila, reports our correspondent. 

The arrestee is Shahidul Islam, 27, son of late Chand Mia of Gachhuapara village in Dhobaura.

Shahidul allegedly killed the fourth grader after rape at Joyrampur village in Dhobaura on October 25.

The victim's grandfather lodged a case with Dhobaura Police Station, accusing Shahdiul, the following day, said OC Shah Kamal Akanda of Mymensingh DB police.
