100 maunds of fish poisoned to death

Unknown criminals poisoned to death around 100 maunds of fish in Anwarpur village under Sadar upazila of Habiganj on Saturday night.

The criminals poured pesticide in the fish farm belonging to Joynal Abedin of the village in the dead of night, locals said, adding that all the fish died due to poisoning of the water.

The price of the fish would be around Tk 5 lakh. Most of the rotten fish have been buried under the ground to prevent spread of bad smell, said Joynal Abedin, owner of the fish farm.

Habiganj Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector Mullah Lutfur Rahman said a case was filed with the police station in this regard.

None was arrested in connection with the incident, he added.
