Newlywed killed

The woman protested husband's illicit relation

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband and his maternal aunt at Dulatpur in Netrakona on Tuesday for protesting her husband's illicit relation with a married woman and also for refusing to give dowry.

The victim was China Sutradhar, 19, wife of Dulal Sutradhar, 25, of Dulatpur area.

Dulal and his aunt Radharani Sutradhar were arrested yesterday from Dulatpur area in Mohanganj upazila headquarters in this connection.

Victim's father Amritalal Sutradhar, of Chakua village in Sulla upazila of Sunamganj, filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station last night accusing Dulal, a carpenter, and his maternal aunt Radharani, 28, said Officer-in-Charge Ansary Zinnat Ali.

The arrestees will be produced before a Netrakona court today (Friday) with a prayer for seven-day remand for each, the OC said.

Police said Dulal married China six months ago and there had been a feud between them over Dulal's alleged illicit love affair with Radharani, a mother of two sons.

On Monday night, an altercation took place between the couple over the issue, the OC said, adding that Dulal might have strangled China early Tuesday and left the scene, keeping the body at their rented house.

Police said Dulal demanded dowry several times, but China's family could not give it.

China's brother-in-law Sukanta Sutradhar, said her poor father gave Tk 30,000 in cash and one tola of gold during the marriage.

Dulal had been living at his maternal uncle's house for some seven years and his parents live in Bholaganj in Sylhet, Sukanta said.
