Nationalisation of two colleges demanded

Half-day strike in Rangpur, human chain in Dinajpur

A strike was observed yesterday in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur, and people of Khansama upazila of Dinajpur formed a human chain demanding nationalisation of Mithapukur Mohabidyalaya and Khansama Degree Colleges.

Traders kept their shops shut and traffic movement remained suspended between 6:00am and 12:00pm in Mithapukur. Teachers, students and locals blocked Dhaka-Rangpur highway during the strike.

Speakers at a rally said Mithapukur Mohabidyalaya was not nationalised despite meeting all the pre-conditions of the education ministry.

Principal Nazrul Islam Chand, Mithapukur Upazila Traders' Association President Wahedur Rahman Shahin and Lutfar Rahman spoke at the rally.

Teachers, students and people formed a human chain in Khansama demanding nationalisation of Khansama Degree College.

Principal Anisur Rahman said it was not nationalised although it met all the pre-conditions of the education ministry.

Committee convener Abu Hatem said Khansama Degree College is situated at a suitable place in the upazila, but was surprisingly not nationalised despite instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prioritise the location.
