The public meeting of local Awami League, which was scheduled to be held at a National University examination centre in Gazipur today, has been postponed amid criticism from different quarters.

As the new committee of Gazipur Awami League was scheduled to hold the meeting at Bhawal Badre Alam Government College around 3:00pm today, the examination centre was shifted to nearby schools and colleges for a day following request from the college principal.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader was expected to attend the meeting as the chief guest.

Considering the examinees’ sufferings, the meeting has been postponed, Advocate Haris Ahmed, a member of the AL central committee, told our Gazipur correspondent.

Although the public meeting has been postponed, the examinations would be held in the changed venues instead of Bhawal Badre Alam Government College, said Professor Jerin Sultana of the government college.

Yesterday, the professor said the venue of the examination was shifted to several colleges in Chandina Chourasta area of the district because of the AL’s meeting scheduled earlier.

“The decision was made after talking to NU VC, exam controller and the people concerned," the principal also said, adding that they gave permission to hold the meeting on the college premises after getting an application from Gazipur AL in this regard.

According to the NU, around 1,600 students of Tongi Government College are about to sit for their master's exams, starting at 1:30pm, on different subjects at the Bhawal Badre Alam Government College exam centre.

Examination controller of NU Mohammad Badruzzaman earlier said though the NU did not issue any prior notice regarding shifting the centre, “they took initiatives so that students would get the message."
