Nahid lauds ‘protests’ over N’ganj teacher’s humiliation

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid today lauded the “peaceful protests” on social media that broke out over the humiliation of a Narayanganj school headmaster.

“We felt empowered in the protests,” Nahid said in a press briefing where he announced reinstating the headmaster and sacking his school’s governing body.

People on the social media mimicked the teacher’s humiliation, by squatting with holding their earlobes, and posting those photos on Facebook, Twitter in show of protest.

Uploaded with a common “Sorry, Sir,” as a token of apology for the teacher’s humiliation, the incident was trending on international news organisation BBC yesterday.

Today, after a probe committee submitted its probe report, Nahid took the major decision that is expected to earn applause from people of all walks of life.

Moreover, the allegation of demeaning religion, for what the headmaster was humiliated, was said to have been found untrue. However, no word was given on the humiliator – local lawmaker AKM Salim Osman.

“The protests were unique. We thank the public for the protests. It proves that the general people are still in favour of the culture of righteousness. They stood for the dignity of a teacher.”
