Musa Ibrahim thanks everyone after rescue

Musa Ibrahim who along with two Indian mountaineers was stuck at the base camp of Mount Carstensz Pyramid in Papua for the last seven days thanked his well-wishers after he was rescued.

Musa called his wife Ummey Sharaban Tahura around 6:00 am (Bangladesh time) through a messaging app after he was rescued safely, Tahura told The Daily Star.

In a Facebook status posted at 1:51pm, he thanked State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Shahriar Alam, State minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh envoy to Indonesia Major General Ajmal Kabir among others.

Musa also expressed his joy at summiting Mount Carstensz where he flew the flag of Bangladesh.

Immediately after his rescue, Musa at 6:06am wrote on his facebook, "Just arrived Timika airport. Allah is so kind. We returned safe. See you insha allah...."

From the airport, they will be taken to a hotel of Papua in Indonesia. From there they are likely to go to Bali, Indonesia, said his wife.

Earlier around 5:30am, Musa sent a text message through a satellite phone to his wife and CEO of Everest academy Mohammed Rafah saying, "finally helicopter reached at base camp for rescue. great job."

On May 30, Musa left Dhaka for his new expedition ‘Bangladesh-India Friendship’ to scale up Carstensz Pyramid, the highest mountain in Australia and Oceania (4,884 metre).

He and the two Indian mountaineers -- Satyarup Siddhanta and Nandita Chandra Shekhar -- began the expedition on June 1 and were expected to finish by June 18.

They conquered the mountain on June 13 and returned to the base camp the same day, Sharaban said.

The next day, Musa, using a satellite phone, texted Sharaban and said they got stuck at the base camp due to bad weather and one of the two Indian mountaineers became sick.
