More non-government educational institutions will be brought under the purview of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) facility by a month, Education Minister Dipu Moni said today.

“We hope, we’ll be able to enroll more institutions under the MPO coverage within a month,” she said while exchanging views with journalists at the secretariat.

Responding to a query on how many institutions would be brought under the MPO scheme afresh, the minister said, non-government institutions were asked to submit applications based on four criteria. After scrutinising the applications, 25,00 institutions have been primarily found to be eligible.

She also said that they are trying to give the MPO facilities to as many institutions as possible at a time.

WHAT IS MONTHLY PAY ORDER (MPO)?

MPO is the government's share in the payroll of the non-government educational institutions. Under the scheme, the government gives 100 percent basic salaries to the teachers of non-government schools. The teachers also get a lump sum amount as other allowances through the MPO.

As per rules, the educational institutions first come under MPO facilities and then the government enlists the teachers in the payroll.
