Mother, daughter murdered in Gazipur

A woman and her daughter were murdered inside their house and her son gravely injured in Gazipur early today, attacked by a group of unknown assailants.

The dead were identified as Hasina Begum, 55, her daughter Arifa Sultana, 21, resident of Atlora Kacharipara village of the upazila, reports our Gazipur correspondent.

Mujibur Rahman, younger son, told The Daily Star that a group of assailants forcibly entered their house and struck his mother, sister and elder brother with heavy objects.

“I got sounds of groaning from the nearby room and found my mother, sister and elder brother lying in pools of blood on the floor around 1:00am,” he said.

His elder brother Shahjahan is now undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical, according to Mujibur.    

Abdul Motaleb Mia, officer-in-charge of Sripur Police Station told The Daily Star the motive behind the killing could not be known immediately. “We will able to be clear about the motive after getting autopsy reports of the victims,” he added.
