Mother ‘commits suicide’ after killing son in Panchagarh

A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her minor son at their residence in Panchagarh’s Debiganj upazila last night.

The deceased was identified as Mamata Rani, 35, wife of Joydeb Roy of Sheuratoli village in Debiganj and one and half month old son Ratul Chandra.

Quoting witnesses, Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station, said Mamata locked into a family feud with her husband in the morning.

Later in the day, she 'mixed poison' with mango juice and served it to her two children Ratul and Setu Rani, 6, as well as took herself in the night.

Being informed by the family members, locals took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex where Mamata and Ratul died.

A case of unnatural death was filed with the police station, said the OC.
