A woman tried to commit suicide after allegedly killing her daughter by poisoning in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar on Thursday night.

The incident took place when Parvin Akther, 25, of Montoil village under Juri upazila allegedly gave poison to her six-year-old daughter Sadiha and then consumed it herself, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

A case has been filed against Parvin in this connection today by her husband Zakir Hossain with Juri Police Station.

Parvin allegedly poisoned her daughter Sadiha, a student of class one, around 9:30pm on Thursday. When Sadiha started vomiting, Parvin and her husband Zakir took her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, said Hamidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Juri Police Station, quoting relatives.

Parvin also started vomiting and fell ill on their way to the hospital. Both of them were admitted to the hospital where Sadiha died early Friday. Her body was sent to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the police official also said.

Parvin is currently having treatment at the hospital in police custody, he added.
