Most of CHT people still unaware

Most of the people in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) are still unaware of the importance of Vitamin A, speakers at a workshop said yesterday.

They said this at a workshop at Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board (CHTDB) Conference Hall organised by the Rangamati unit of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB).

The programme was organised with the slogan 'Universal salt iodization and fortification of edible oil with Vitamin A' in association of Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).

Due to the unawareness, people in CHT suffer from various diseases and growing public awareness is a must, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Manzarul Mannan said while attending the programme as the chief guest.

Different non-government organisations (NGOs) can play a vital role in this regard as people in remote hill areas are unaware of the importance of Vitamin A enriched foods, the DC said.

Presided by Kazi Nazrul Islam, president of CAB's Rangamati unit, headmasters of primary schools in the town and representatives from different government and non-government organisations were present on the occasion.
