Moneylender's men loot house

A gang led by a local money lender attacked the house of Habibur Rahman of Daldalia village in Saghata upazila on Saturday.

Locals said over 50 hired goons, allegedly led by moneylender Mominul Islam of Bati village, vandalised the tin-shed house of Habibur.

They also took away goods and valuables from the house and beat up the family members.

Victim Habibur said he borrowed over Tk one lakh from Mominul on high rate of interest.

As he failed to pay back the money in due time, an altercation took place between them.

On Saturday night, the hired goons, equipped with lethal weapons, swooped on his house, said Habibur.

Despite repeated calls, this correspondent could not reach the moneylender for his comment on the issue as his cellphone remained switched off.

Habibur filed a complaint with Saghata Police Station, accusing 17 people in this connection, said Officer-in-Charge Mostafizur Rahman.
