Mobile sets worth Tk 30cr seized at Dhaka airport

Customs Intelligence officials today seized around 15,000 mobile sets worth Tk 30 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The mobile sets were brought by a flight of Hong Kong Airways that landed at the Dhaka airport yesterday, Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Customs House, told The Daily Star.

On secret information, Customs Intelligence took position at Cargo Village of the airport and made the seizure around 4:45pm today while those mobile sets were being processed to dispose of from the cargo section, the official added.

Market value of the mobile phone sets stashed in at least 18 cartons is estimated Tk 30 crore, he said.

There was consignment to bring some chargers of mobile phone sets but the smugglers brought the mobile sets giving fake official address, the official added.

Process to nab the culprits responsible for the smuggling is on, the official said.
