A Chittagong court today indicted two people in a weapons case filed over the murder of SP Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in June this year.

Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions judge Md Shahenur indicted Ehteshamul Haque Bhola and Monir Hossain after hearing, reports our local staff correspondent.

The court will start hearing the case from January 18, Public Prosecutor Fakhruddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star.

On June 5, Mitu, wife of police’s counter-terror officer Babul Aktar, was stabbed and shot dead by attackers who waylaid her while she was taking her son to board school bus at OR Nizam Road.

Bhola and Monir were arrested in possession of weapons and ammunition on Jun 28, after which the case was filed at Baklia Police Station.

Detectives said two guns recovered from them, a locally-made 32 bore revolver and 7.65 bore pistol, were used in the killing.

Bhola stands accused in cases for both murder and weapons supply, but his ‘assistant’ Monir is accused in the latter only. Monir gave his testimony, under Section-164, before court on Jul 8.
