Missing boy gets GPA-5

The brilliant result of a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee in Phulbaria upazila could not make his family members and relatives happy as he has been missing for over two months.

Mehedi Hasan Babu, 15, son of Shahjahan Ali, a Dubai expatriate, got GPA-5 from Polashihata High School and College in the upazila, police said quoting family sources.

Babu, a student of science group went out of his house on March 6 and did not return home.

On March 7, Babu's mother Minara Khatun of Shibpur village received a message from her son's mobile phone demanding Tk 6 lakh for his safe return, she said, adding that Babu's phone was found switched-off after that.

Babu's uncle Abdul Motaleb filed a general diary (GD) with Phulbaria Police Station the same day.

Afterwards, police detained Mohammad Tushar, 19, an HSC examinee of the same village, on March 12, for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping, and took him on a two-day remand.

Phulbaria Police Station OC Sheikh Kabirul Islam said Tushar told them that he and Babu travelled to Dhaka together in the same bus, Babu got down in Kuril Biswa Road area in the capital.

Tushar was released on bail on April 1 and the case was later transferred to Detective Branch (DB) of police, the OC said.

Polashihata High School and College Principal Md Shamsul Haque said they urged the police to rescue the boy.

Babu's father Shahjahan Ali returned to Bangladesh on hearing about the incident and he is suffering from mental problems, neighbours said.

“All our happiness disappeared and the brilliant result could not be a consolation for us as our beloved son is still missing,” said a sobbing Minara.

Appealing to the administration to rescue the boy soon, Shahjahan also alleged that police did not take proper steps to rescue the boy.
