Miners’ ultimatum to pay hiked wages

The miners of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) at a human chain yesterday urged the authorities to pay their wages as per the hiked scale declared in August.

Rabiul Islam, president of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd Workers' Union, said the miners had been staging agitation demanding regularisation of their job.

But, the BCMCL authorities declared a new payment package for the miners.

The payment of August was expected to be disbursed on September 5 which yet to be made, said Rabiul.

He also urged the authorities to pay their wages as per the new hiked scale as of September 28. If not, the miners would go for tougher agitation ahead, he threatened.

The coal mine has more than 1,000 miners for producing the coal.
