Manna gets bail, but won’t get release

Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, who has been in jail for a year-and-half, has been given bail in sedition charge. However, it will not give him release from jail.

A High Court bench Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah granted Manna bail after hearing a petition filed by the accused.

Manna is arrested in another case, therefore, he cannot get release from jail, said Deputy Attorney General Md Bashir Ullah. “He has been given bail in grounds that he is in captivity for 18 months, but a charge sheet has not been submitted.”

On March 5 last year, Gulshan police sued Manna for sedition. Earlier on February 25 he was sued on charge of instigating the armed forces to topple the government.

Manna was arrested on February 25 last year.
