The victims were -- poet Arif Bulbul, 45, singer Shahin Mahmud, 35, cultural activist Amol Akash, 35, and poet Ahmed Bablu, 35, reports our Narayanganj correspondent.

Of them, Arif Bulbul was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition while others were undergoing treatment at a local hospital, said Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Model Police Station.

Miscreants attacked them at Toki Moncho of Chashara Shaheed Minar around 6:45pm after the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port staged a demonstration there protesting the government’s decision to construct Rampal power plant near the Sundarbans.

Rafiur Rabbi, a cultural personality who presided over the programme, said the attack was carried out by those who are in favour of Rampal power plant and against the Sundarbans.
