Man stabbed to death

A man was stabbed to death at Rahimanpur Madrasa Bazar in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila yesterday.

The victim was Anisur Rahman, 40, son of Nendu Mohammad of Rahimanpur village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Abdul Latif Mia told this correspondent over cellphone that Anisur was buying paan from a stall in the bazar when, all of a sudden, Md Sujan Ali attacked him with an axe from behind, leaving him seriously injured.

Locals took Anisur to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

Soon after the attack, Sujan also cut himself on different parts of his body with the weapon in a bid to pass himself off as a mentally disturbed man, locals alleged. They detained Sujan and later handed him over to police.

The OC said police are investigating the matter, adding that Sujan is undergoing treatment at the hospital under police custody.
